Mason Thelen Licit Studio Shoot
Hi Gang,
A definite shift in content for this week. I’ll be showing some studio portrait work I’ve done recently and then next week I may move into some more traditional portrait work I’ve done this past year.
Mason is the subject this week. He recently launched his consulting business, Licit, and needed some marketing collateral. Suffice it to say, this image is not part of that. This was the image he let me shoot after we did the serious stuff.
Technical: Canon 1Ds Mark II, 24-70mm, 1/200th shutter speed, f/8, lit with 1 strobe and umbrella, background is a window well insert I bought from Menards.

A window well insert? Once again, Alec, your creativity and imagination know no bounds. Thinking outside the box, as they say… It appears you are equal parts photographer and artist.
All I can say is double snap, Dude.
Respect the double snap.
Sweet.
This is certainly different than what I have been used to on the last few posts, Alec, but I sure like the deviation. When the image first popped up on my monitor, I thought lensbaby or a special lens technique and then find out what the backdrop is. How clever is that? I have seen window well inserts before but most are solid plastic of some sort. This on lookw like it is a reflective material and this adds to the overall color interest in the image. Great use of the imagination.

Hey, we need one of those egress window wells for our house!
Hi Wes,
One of the qualities I was looking for was the high reflectance. I also thought the pattern of the well would be cool. In truth, I was not happy with the general performance of the well on those two qualities. Really thought it was going to be MORE reflective than it was.
THANKS FOR BEING HERE.

Fear the Double Snap.
Hey Kevin,
Well, you’re very kind. The window well didn’t actually perform as well as I hoped. That being said, I was able to salvage the image and would probably continue to experiment with it. But its just that, an experiment.
Photography always is.
Cheers,
Alec
I have never noticed how furry Mason was before. I love the creative setting. Is that a reflection of him on both sides? I can’t figure that out.
Its not ‘furry,’ it is all that is man…
