Studio Portrait: 5 Light Setup

terryDemoLast week I was in Knoxville, TN assisting my good friend, Bryan Allen, with his studio and location lighting workshop.  As part of that workshop he asked me to demonstrate a lighting technique I use occasionally in my studio portrait work.

This is Terry, one of the models participating in the workshop and he kindly stood in for this demo.  This is a five light setup and in a day or two I’ll be posting a two part tutorial series on the making of this image.  Part one focuses on the lighting setup and strategy and part two focuses on the post processing in Photoshop.

For now, I hope you enjoy it and look forward to the tutorial.

Nice shot Alec! I’ll be interested to learn how you managed/edited the background to create such contrast with the subject.
